Music always has been a part of Beth Gilchrist’s life. It started when her mother taught music in Moffat County. Thus, it came to be that she joined the Northwest Colorado Chapter of Parrotheads, an organization that has dedicated itself to encouraging music education in the Moffat County School District.
Craig briefs: Auction to raise money for MCHS grad

An auction Oct. 17 at the OP Bar & Grill will benefit Cory Pike, a 2007 Moffat County High School graduate and a Colorado State University student. Pike was diagnosed June 10 with Burkitt’s lymphoma.
Homecoming king and queen crowned get Thursday

On a brightly lit stage in front of 400 shrieking and clapping teenagers, Moffat County High School senior Kelsey Grinstead didn’t hear her named called as the 2009 homecoming queen. “I didn’t even know they called me,” she said. “I didn’t know until I saw my friends just screaming and my mom pointing at me.”
Great Cardboard Boat Regatta kicks off

Rule No. 1 is to have fun. The 2009 Great Cardboard Boat Regatta may be a required activity for advanced science students at Moffat County High School but that doesn’t stop them from taking rule No. 1 very seriously.

There was a point when 15-year-old Jessi Scott thought about wearing jeans to the 2009 Moffat County High School homecoming dance. “I just could not find a dress,” she said from behind the doors of a dressing room at Maurices, as she tried on different outfits for the Saturday night affair.

Mankind seems to have a universal sense of morality and a desire to understand what is actually real. Our conclusions by which we live is called our “worldview.” Before Pilate, Jesus said he came “into the world to bear witness to the truth,” and “everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.” Pilate, probably in sarcasm, responded, “What is truth?”

Although she would have preferred to crash another team’s homecoming celebration, Jessica Matthews was more than happy to have won hers. The junior libero said her team wanted to leave no doubt in front of the home crowd. In winning, 3-0, the varsity team did just that Thursday night at Moffat County High School.

When the game is on, Brianna Montgomery-Braun, Moffat County High School varsity volleyball coach, displays a range of emotions. When her team scores, she’s the first to jump with joy. When opponents score, Montgomery-Braun is stern. But regardless of the game or situation, she always is the same in one regard. Her footwear. Or lack thereof.

Coming off two straight losses, the Moffat County High School varsity football will get exactly what it needs. A little homecoming. The team will take on the Eagle Valley High School Demons at 7 p.m. tonight at the Bulldog Proving Grounds as it hopes to get back to its winning ways.
State government closure day is today

Many state government offices will be closed today, the second of four closure days this year to help keep the state budget balanced during the economic recession. State offices also will be closed Monday for Columbus Day.

Wounded veterans go on rafting trip
Group visits Lodore Canyon for outing to help with rehabilitation

A group of injured U.S. veterans were treated to a rafting trip last week through Lodore Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument. The trip was organized through a partnership between the Wounded Warrior Project, Adaptive Sports Association in Durango, Colorado Discover Ability and the National Parks Service.
2 MCHS grads honored at coronation Thursday

Two graduates of Moffat County High School took the coronation stage Thursday for the crowning of royalty. George Avgares and Katrina Willey were good friends in high school 20 years ago, but are being honored this year for their contributions to the community and carrying on the legacy of Moffat County High School.
