The Moffat County High School varsity cross-country team continued its strong performance, with a pair of top-five finishes Saturday at Fountain.

Running in The Classical Academy Thunder Invitational cross-country meet, the girls team finished fourth out of 15 complete teams, and the boys team finished third out of 16 complete teams.

A week after sweeping the Moffat County Cross Country Invitational meet at Loudy-Simpson Park, both teams faced several tough teams Saturday, coach Todd Trapp said.

"Overall, both teams competed at a high level," he said. "Maddy (Jourgensen) finished third competing with some really good kids, and our No. 5 runner Sassy Murray was able to close the gap."

The boys side was again lead by Chris Zirkle, who finished fifth overall.

Alfredo Lebron finished eighth with Alex McCoy behind him in 12th place.

"It was a big, competitive meet, and it showed that our kids are ready to compete at a high level," Trapp said. "All around, I think everyone performed at a high level."

Erin Leonard finished 22nd with a time of 20:19.6.

For the girls, Nike Cleverly finished 31st, which was ahead of Bailey Hellander, who finished 35th and Murray, who finished 43rd.

The team's next meet will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Aspen.
