Bird causes 2 YVEA malfunctions
About 2,600 homes and businesses in Craig were without power for about an hour Saturday afternoon, Yampa Valley Electric Association reported in a news release.
The electrical outage occurred about 1:20 p.m., when a bird made contact between an energized circuit and a ground wire, causing two regulators to malfunction at the Norman Substation, in the back of the YVEA office.
Local homes and businesses were without power until 2:35 p.m., when a work crew rerouted the electric feed and restored power.
Crews worked until 6 p.m. to replace the defective equipment and put the distribution grid back to normal operation.
