H. Neal Glanville: Where life isn’t interrupted

Hiding places.

We all have them, the secret spots in our brain where we can slip away from the crud of adulthood and enjoy life as we imagine it should be.

Whether the escape lasts a moment, or as is my case, the long side of six decades, doesn’t matter.

It’s your spot and your own little world.

(Note: I wouldn’t look up right now; the other people in here are wondering about you and when you’re going to check back in. Smile and keep reading; that will really scare them.)

Of course, there are drawbacks to hiding spots. One or two of us chose to stay longer than our recommended daily allowance, unlike the wagon load of disbelievers that keep circling their spot, much like they do the truth, hoping that somehow the crud of adulthood will go away so their version of life won’t be interrupted.

Such seems to be the case with the ongoing whine fest regarding legalizing the use of ATV’s on city streets, or the futile argument about the constitutional rights of medicinal pot users.

It’s a given I’ll argue for or against anything. I’ve argued about water changing its color on cloudy days, and the need for seat belts on wiener dogs. (I lost that one to a pouty little boy from Elk Springs.)

My point, since I have one, is simple: arguing and debating are useful if we are to change things that need changing.

I dearly appreciate the effort people are making for the above mentioned causes, but what about putting that energy into something we have hope in changing, like the seemingly unchecked alcohol problem at the high school?

It’s become a badge of honor to have double digit citations for minor in possession, and why not? There’s no apparent punishment tough enough to slow the consumption.

If you take a 30-day average at the high school, marijuana usage is probably a very distant fourth to booze. We parents, grandparents and guardians need to step up and help all we can to curb this growing epidemic.

Now for something completely different …

Friends and readers often ask me to comment on a bad experience they’ve had at a local business.

Most accept my simple “nope” for an answer. Some weren’t willing to tell the manager or owner about their problem when it happened, and assume I will.

The others, well, the others just enjoy complaining about anything.

To mix things up a bit, I’d like to personally thank Kent at Just Ask Rentals for his tool expertise and wickedly weird sense of humor.

I was going to thank the lady at the hair place on Yampa Avenue who gave me my last haircut, but then I thought, why thank somebody for a haircut nobody noticed, or is that the perfect haircut?

Hey, you be careful out there.
