After facing tough competition in the first national meet of the year, the Bad Dogs youth wrestling team got back to its winning ways in Granby.
Wrestling in the Wild West match Nov. 7, the Bad Dogs were in midseason form, coach Rodney Klimper said.
“The kids faired really well,” he said. “We took 23 kids and they were pretty impressive. We are actually getting to a point where other teams are forfeiting matches rather than wrestling the Bad Dogs.”
Klimper said the Bad Dogs used the Wild West match as a springboard for the rest of the season.
“The Intermountain League is a great warm-up for where we are going,” he said. “After the Bad Dogs Tournament, we start wrestling down in the (Grand) Junction area and those teams are a lot more intense.”
The teams were ready for the Bad Dogs last year, and would be ready this year, Klimper said.
“Last year, when we went to Palisade, we ended up with only one first place finish,” he said.
At the Wild West meet, however, the Bad Dogs had more success.
Cody Baker, Thomas Baker, Mikey Bingham, Daniel Caddy, Shandon Hadley, Isiaih Herod, Gregory Hixson and Mikinzie Klimper all picked up first-place finishes.
The team’s overall record was 46-23, including 23 pins, 11 second-place finishes and three fourth-place finishes.
Today, the team will travel to Frisco for the Summit Invitational at Summit High School.
