Flags lowered until Veterans Day
Gov. Ritter issues statement to honor those who died at Fort Hood
November 7, 2009
Following Friday’s presidential directive, Gov. Bill Ritter ordered United States and Colorado state flags be lowered on all public buildings throughout Colorado immediately and to stay lowered until sunset Tuesday.
The order was issued to honor the memory of those who gave their lives during Thursday’s tragedy at Fort Hood army base outside Killeen, Texas.
A gunman opened fire at the base and killed 13 people and wounded 30 others.
Ritter issued a statement Friday in commemoration of the victims:
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and were injured (Thursday) at Fort Hood,” Ritter said in a news release.
“This senseless act of violence against the men and women who sacrifice so much for our country is truly tragic. I join all Americans in extending my deepest sympathies and condolences to everyone who was touched by this.”
