Craig briefs: Pageant to take place Saturday

The Miss Yampa Valley Pageant is an all-natural pageant for girls ages 3 to 18.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ridgeview Elementary School.
Contestants are asked to bring a new or like-new toy to be donated to the KRAI toy drive.
Optional competitions will take place through the day, and the finale will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The finale will feature a formal wear competition, performances and final awards. Attendees of the finale are asked to make a donation to Moffat County United Way.

Free sign language class in Craig
A free sign language class for adults starts Nov. 17 in Craig. The class will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at Calvary Baptist Church, 1050 Yampa Ave.
It will last eight to 10 weeks. Participants can buy books at Colorado Northwestern Community College and online. For information, call 824-2547 and ask for Deena or Staci.
Concert association presents piano duo
Simon & Son, America’s only father/son piano duo, will play at the Moffat County High School auditorium, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 as part of the 2009-2010 concert series.
The Simon & Son duo includes the youngest performer ever in Carnegie Hall. Internationally acclaimed pianist/humorist Peter Simon is joined by fellow pianist and son, Saling Simon, “in a delightful evening of classical and popular music interspersed with humorous stories and fun for all ages,” the sponsoring Craig Concert Association reported in a news release.
“With a repertoire ranging from Cole Porter to Wipeout, Simon & Son shatter classical music’s pretensions with a dash of humor spicing up the Schubert,” the Concert Association reported.
Tickets are $20 at the door; or the last of the season memberships are available. They cost $30 for adults and $10 for students.

Hayden Chamber pushes for members
The Hayden Chamber of Commerce is hosting its membership drive kickoff from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at First National Bank of the Rockies, 252 W. Jefferson, in Hayden.
