Voters keep spending provision, elect school board members
Results announced for Tuesday’s general election
November 3, 2009
Moffat County election officials finalized results from Tuesday's general election, which produced 1,005 voters, or 11.5 percent of the county's 8,730 registered voters.
That turnout translates into one of the worst in the county's election history.
Voters had three uncontested seats for the Moffat County School Board to decide, and city voters were tasked with whether to strike a provision limiting campaign spending from the municipal charter.
Results for the School Board seats are listed below:
• Karen Stillion, district 2 seat - 845 votes
• Sandra Johns, district 4 - 856 votes
• Christine Balderston, district 6 - 819 votes
The campaign spending provision, which has been deemed a violation of the U.S. Constitution after being challenged earlier this year, limits candidates to spending no more than $500 of their own money on their own campaign.
According to the election results, 354 people voted against eliminating the provision from the city charter, while 286 people voted for it.
The election results for the School Board seats and the ballot question do not include totals for Maybell and Dinosaur, which county officials said included about 25 ballots.
Those totals are coming later in the night.
