Dale Nakai, front left, a Moffat County High School freshman, accepts a Dell laptop and some kind words from Craig resident Tony St. John, front right, Friday at the high school. Nakai was one of five students awarded grand prizes in the 14th Annual Safety Belt Awareness Program, sponsored by the Craig Police Department and organized by St. John. The program rewards high school students for buckling their seatbelt while driving. Other winners were Challyn Pfifer, back left, a senior who won a set of Dayton tires; Alex McKey, a junior who won a 19-inch Sharp LCD high-definition television; Keith Fenton, a junior who won a Pioneer in-dash car stereo; and Katy Nottingham, a junior who won a gift certificate for $100 worth of gas. Police officers handed out 289 other prizes from September to April during the program. Pictured in back right is Cpl. Bryan Gonzales.
Today
8 to 10:30 a.m. American Legion Post 62 hosts a pancake breakfast at the Legion Headquarters, 1055 Moffat County Road 7. Breakfast is $5 a person.
1 p.m. Unicyclists meet at Alice Pleasant Park. Call Kevin Morris at 824-1703.
2 p.m. The Augusta Wallihan Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosts its monthly meeting at the Museum of Northwest Colorado. Visitors always are welcome. Call Shannan Koucherik at 824-9518.
5 p.m. American Legion bingo takes place at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way. Doors open at 5 p.m. Games begin at 6:15 p.m. The progressive jackpot is up to $1,500.
7 p.m. The Joyful Noisemakers youth group performs the musical, "Rock Solid," at Craig Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way. The event is open to the public.
8 p.m. An open meeting of Craig Group One Alcoholics Anonymous is at First Congregational Church, 630 Green St. Call Bud at 824-1793.
Sunday, May 10
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sombrero Ranches Horse Drive/Maybell Heritage Day takes place in Maybell. Horses, cowboys and cowgirls can be viewed from Maybell Park.
