Craig briefs: Flags to be lowered today

Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered that United States and Colorado state flags be lowered to half-staff at state and federal facilities throughout Colorado today in honor of Sgt. James Dewel Pirtle, 21, of Colorado Springs.
Sgt. Pirtle died May 1 in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a result of injuries received from direct fire.
His funeral will take place at Fort Carson at 10 a.m. today.
Club seeks West Days parade submissions
Join the fun May 23 by joining the Lions Club Parade to celebrate the 19th Annual Grand Olde West Days.
This year's theme is Real Fun in the Real West. Take friends, dust off the lawn chairs and be in the parade. Line up begins at Craig Middle School at 1:30 p.m. The parade starts heading south on Yampa Avenue at 2 p.m.
Parade submission is free. To participate, download the registration form from www.grandoldewestdays.com, complete and turn it in at the Community Budget Center in downtown Craig.
