Craig Daily Press staff writer Ben Bulkeley has made the switch from covering news to sports, the newspaper announced Wednesday afternoon.
Bulkeley, 23, a Cornish, N.H., native, began working at the Daily Press in March and has primarily handled education and health care coverage for the newspaper.
His change from news to sports is effective immediately.
"Ben is a personable and capable young journalist and has been a key addition to the newspaper," Editor Joshua Roberts said. "We have every confidence in Ben and expect him to improve our sports coverage. I have no doubt that's exactly what he'll do.
"I'm sure Ben will have no trouble meshing well with the players, coaches and readers in Moffat County."
Making the switch from news to sports has long been a goal for Bulkeley, a former reporter at the Eagle Times, in Claremont, N.H., and a fan of New England sports teams like the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.
"It's exciting - I'm returning to my roots, in a sense," Bulkeley said. "I went in to this field because I had hoped to one day become a sportswriter."
Bulkeley will be responsible for covering local sporting events and writing news and features about local coaches, athletes and sports topics.
He said he is looking forward to getting out and meeting as many people in the local sports world as he can and covering a new season for Moffat County High School sports teams in the fall.
"Being such a huge fan of sports makes the transition easier," he said. "I get to cover what I love and get out in my new community while I'm doing it."
