In last week's column I inadvertently published the same phone number for Performance Painting and Custom Finishing and Thirsty Thistles. For clarification purposes, Thirsty Thistles' correct phone number is 321-7336, and Performance Painting and Custom Finishing can be contacted at 620-1506. I apologize for any trouble this may have caused.
In light of newspapers closing such as the Rocky Mountain News and others across the country, I am frequently asked about the status of your local newspaper, the Craig Daily Press.
In my opinion, the newspaper industry does a poor job of telling its own story.
It is my belief that the newspaper industry will be just fine for many years to come. You might constantly hear that the newspaper industry is in trouble, but I believe that many of the issues our industry is facing right now are issues stemming from a slowed economy.
Now, that is not to say our industry does not have issues to address in the coming years regarding the multitude of technologies we must embrace to share our news, but I think we will find the solutions needed.
In the case of the Craig Daily Press, sure, we have experienced a decline in revenue as of late, but when I look at the future of the Craig Daily Press, it looks bright.
This newspaper is read by about 78 percent of this market each day. No other medium does that.
The number of users on www.craigdailypress.com continues to grow, not just from local residents, but from people around the world.
Our home delivery subscribers have grown month after month for the past couple of years.
We have great news content, and the majority of that news content contains news about local people doing local things.
Do we make mistakes? Sure we do. But, I can assure you that when we make mistakes our loyal readers let us know because they hold us to a high standard of journalism.
Our editorial staff is filled with young journalists who are determined to learn the trade and dedicated to sharing the news that matters to you.
The Craig Daily Press employees 14 talented people in Craig. We are a community partner involved in many aspects of the community in various ways from donating money to donating our time.
In closing, I appreciate your concern about the future of your newspaper, and I anticipate this newspaper serving our community for many years to come.
