Seminar designed to aid businesses

The public is invited to attend a free seminar next week on how to grow small businesses and thrive in the future.

Top of Mind Awareness is a survey that measures the public's knowledge about a company. The seminar will focus on how local businesses can earn more of their respective market shares by increasing TOMA. The survey will show how quickly people think of a company when a service is needed.

The seminar is free and will begin at 7:30 a.m. March 26 with sign-ups. The presentation is from 8 to 10 a.m. It will be hosted at the Holiday Inn of Craig.

The seminar will be presented by nationally known speaker Mark Rood and is sponsored by the Craig Daily Press.

Breakfast is provided and RSVP is required. For more information, call 824-7031 or e-mail Renee Campbell at rcampbell@craigdailypress.com.

Daily Press, KRAI host candidate forum today

The public is invited to attend a Craig City Council candidate forum at 6 p.m. today at the Centennial Mall, 1111 W. Victory Way. The candidates will discuss their views about current and upcoming city issues.

The forum is sponsored by the Craig Daily Press and KRAI.

Election Day is April 7 at the mall.

2009 farmers market organizing begins

Farmers markets across the country are filling the need for fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables and homemade baked goods.

Join other gardeners, bakers, growers and organizers for a special meeting in early April to outline the 2009 farmers market.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 2 at the Golden Cavvy, 538 Yampa Ave. The Craig Farmers Market will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, beginning in May or June.

The Downtown Business Association is looking for people interested in helping make this year's market the "best ever," the DBA reported in a news release.

According to Burpee Seed Company owner George Ball, "Whenever the economy is down, we see a spike in seed sales. For every dollar you invest in a garden, you get an average of $25 worth of store-bought produce, so it's an excellent return. Plus, you can't buy that kind of flavor at the grocery."

For more information, call Carol Jacobson at 824-5343 or 824-3108.

Candidates meet Friday at Downtown Books

Join Craig City Council candidates for a meet and greet session from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at Downtown Books, 543 Yampa Ave.

Council candidates are incumbents Terry Carwile, Gene Bilodeau and Byron Willems. Council hopefuls are Joe Bird, Jennifer Riley and Francisco Reina. Mayor Don Jones also is running for re-election.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call Carwile at 824-3108.

Craig library hosts story-time Thursdays

The Craig branch of Moffat County Public Libraries, 570 Green St., hosts story-time from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the children's room. The theme for story-time is Women's History Month.

Library staff ask attendees to arrive 10 minutes prior to scheduled start times to avoid disrupting others at the event.

Through Friday, all youths 10 years old and younger who have completed their reading log for the library's 2009 Winter Reading Program can come by the library to turn in their reading log and pick up their prize.
