Craig Pending a final clearance by the Craig City Council next week, Andrea and Dale Camp will be set to apply for construction permits for a new four-screen movie theater on Craig's west side.
The city Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the project's site plan at its meeting Monday night with a condition that engineers rework drainage issues on the east side of construction lot.
Upon hearing the Planning Commission's decision, Andrea was all smiles.
"I'm just excited to finally be at this point," she said, alluding to the multiple years she and her husband spent planning and working their finances.
She said she began to wonder if the moment would arrive, but now it seems likely the couple can start building this summer.
The project's architect is drawing detailed building plans now, Andrea said, and the couple could put out for construction bids within three weeks if the Council gives its OK, which could come at its meeting Tuesday.
The Camps plan to build next to the new Hampton Inn off First Street, which has been under construction during winter.
The movie theater also will house a concessions stand, three party rooms and an arcade, though plans to include a restaurant or sports bar inside the building have been reworked.
Instead, there will be a 3,000-square-foot retail and/or restaurant space located next door, which Andrea said the couple could build themselves or possibly sell the land to another developer.
The Planning Commission also unanimously approved the site plan for the New Creation Church, which plans to build a 6,000-square-foot building at 520 Westridge Road, in the Ridgeview subdivision.
Plan drawings for the new church show a 232-capacity sanctuary, three classrooms, a kitchen area and a conference room.
