Having one volleyball coach from Wyoming is good.

Having three might be better.

On Monday, the Cowboy Up volleyball camp took over the gym at Moffat County High School.

For the three-day camp, coaches Louise Kennedy, of Lyman, Wyo., and Ann Wille, of Baggs, Wyo., joined Moffat County head coach Brianna Montgomery, also of Baggs, for a series of workouts and scrimmages.

Having three coaches helped divide the more than 40 girls in camp to work on each individual skill, Montgomery said.

"They will work on everything," she said. "Nothing will be left out."

Having outside coaches also helped the players get a different perspective, Montgomery said.

"One thing the coaches do is show the girls wonderful skills," Montgomery said. "And they are trying them in true competition."

On Monday, randomly selected teams faced off in warm-up matches. By the end of most matches, however, the teams looked to be in midseason form.

"They're learning to compete," Montgomery said.

Sophomore Adrie Camp, 15, said the camp helped improved Moffat County's team in a short period of time.

"We are working better as a team," Adrie said. "We're learning to work together."

Adrie said she would spend the remainder of the summer working on every volleyball aspect.

"I'm going to keep trying my best, and commit to all my skills," she said. "Not just one."

The camp provided the opportunity to hone all facets of her game, Adrie said.

"They have fun ways of working on team skills," she said. "It's all the basics like passing skills. It's the perfect way to work on all the basic skills."

For sophomore Annie Sadvar, 14, the camp was an opportunity to work on hitting.

"I need to approach faster and make contact easier," she said. "I'll just keep working on my whole game."

Adrie and Annie agreed that having the team be one connected unit would decide their season.

"We just really need to keep working as a team," Annie said. "Last year, that's why we played so poorly."

Getting the team moving in one direction will come from the top, Annie said.

"We need to work like the coaches tell you to," she said. "And not complain."

The two-a-day sessions in the gym help build up team character, Adrie said.

"We want to improve from last year," Adrie said. "We know we can win, and if we keep working, we will get more wins than last year."

On July 6, the team will travel to Provo, Utah, for a weeklong camp.
