Halen Raymond catches a ball during Thursday's practice at Woodbury Sports Complex. Raymond will start the first game of a doubleheader versus Rifle on Saturday.
With six games in four days, the Moffat County American Legion Post 62 baseball team is heading in to the homestretch.
Sort of.
At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, the team will travel to Rifle for a doubleheader. On Monday, the team will travel to Grand Junction for two games against Grand Junction Central and two more on Tuesday against Palisade.
The team will not play another home game this season.
Because of June rain, the team's schedule was pushed back.
"Mostly, the rest of our games are make-up games," coach Justin Folley said.
Folley said the late games - the season was supposed to finish June 30 - could affect his player's summer camp schedules.
The team has played well in its conference, compiling a record of 5-3 and an overall record of 6-6. Two of those wins came at the expense of the Battle Mountain Huskies on Tuesday.
In the first game, the team scored 11 runs in support of pitcher Nathan Hill for an 11-1 victory.
If the bats sparked in the first game, they exploded in the second.
The Bulldogs scored 25 runs with 21 hits to give pitcher Ivan Nielson the win.
It was just the latest offensive outburst for the team, which scored 16 runs June 22 against Carbondale.
The last time the Bulldogs faced Rifle, it avenged two high school season losses with a June 6 win in Rifle.
Halen Raymond will throw in the first game in Rifle, and Bubba Ivers will toss the nightcap.
On July 8, the team will travel to Summit for two games before finishing the regular season July 11 in Palisade.
