Confirmed H1N1 flu case in Routt County
Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association received a report of the first confirmed case of H1N1 Flu in Routt County. The case was mild, and the person is fully recovered.
At this time across the United States, the H1N1 flu continues to behave very similarly to seasonal flu. It is a relatively mild disease with a spectrum of illness. At this time, there have been 101 confirmed cases of H1N1 reported in Colorado in the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Archuleta, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, Eagle, El Paso, Fremont, Garfield, Jefferson, La Plata, Larimer, Mesa, Morgan, Pitkin and Weld.
People who become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including a fever of more than 100 F, body aches, cough, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea should stay home and avoid contact with other people to keep from spreading the illness. People with mild influenza symptoms do not need to be tested. If symptoms become severe, people should seek medical care from their primary care physician.
Northwest Colorado VNA continues to advise individuals that exercising precaution is the best defense against influenza. Avoid close contact with ill people, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or sleeve. Wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, and practice other good health habits.
Influenza information can be found at www.cdphe.state.co.us. Comprehensive information regarding H1N1 influenza can be found at www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu.
