Craig To the editor:
I lost my hearing from spiral meningitis at seven months old.
At school in another state (I don't want to name which one) I was taught to be ashamed to be deaf. I was forced not to sign. That's why I don't sign much.
I tried to be a volunteer, but not being able to speak was a barrier. Some people didn't like to write. That made no communication for me.
Today's blessing is for more mainstreaming at statewide schools and more interpreters at colleges.
Thank you.
