- Tara Montoya and David Hickson, of Craig, announce the birth of their son, Marques Tayler Hickson, at 4:25 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. His grandparents are Sandra Bernhardt, of Craig, Anngie Jenkins, of Craig; Frank Hickson, of Grand Junction; and Leslie Montoya, of Craig.
- Christene Planansky and Nick Planansky, of Hayden, announce the birth of their son, Christian Lane Planansky, at 8:41 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 13.7 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. His grandparents are Rodney and Debra Planansky of Hemingford, Neb.; W.C. and Barbara Bratcher, of Lubbock, Texas; and Greg and Randi Allen, of Perryton, Texas. The baby was welcome home by Jacob, Hunter, Payton and Josef.
- Cristy Simpson and Daniel Simpson, of Craig, announce the birth of their daughter, Meadow Renee Simpson, at 11:56 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long. Her Grandparents are Shirey Simpson and Steve Simpson, of Craig; Greg Ban, of Grand Junction; and Edith McLean, of Craig. The baby was welcomed home by Myles Simpson.

The Division of Wildlife hosted a youth Cast and Blast on May 30 in Axial Basin. The event had a full roster of 30 youths from Craig and Meeker. Lunch, transportation and equipment were provided by DOW. The day promoted interest in outdoor activities and focused on fly fishing and shotgun shooting. The primary goal of this event was to recruit young people into hunting and fishing.
