Sports briefs: Annual Sheriff's Scramble golf event is Saturday


The annual Sheriff's Scramble golf tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Yampa Valley Golf Course.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the Moffat County Sheriff's Office scholarship fund.

Each year, three students are selected by an independent council to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Sheriff's Office.

There are four members to a team, and the scramble will begin with a shotgun start.

There will be prizes for first-, second- and third-place teams, longest drive, and putting.

Entry cost is $40, and forms are available at the Sheriff's Office, 800 W. First St., and the golf course, 2179 Highway 394.

Arroyo Memorial Golf Tournament is June 13

The Seventh annual Arroyo Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Craig will take place at 8 a.m. June 13 at Yampa Valley Golf Course.

The tournament is a four-person team scramble. Fees may be paid at the golf course.

Craig Youth Hockey seeking coaches

At 4:30 p.m., Sunday, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in volunteer coaching for the 2009-10 season of the Craig Youth Hockey Association.

The meeting will be at 806 Ashley Court.

The Craig Youth Hockey Association is seeking head and assistant coaches for the competitive and house league teams.
