U.S. Rep. Harry E. Mitchell, D-Ariz., recently spoke out for ways the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs could provide more timely medical treatment.
Mitchell, chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, said Congress came part of the way when it provided funding for 4,000 new VA claims processors.
Now, it needs to provide those processors with consistent, high-quality training and a forum to share best practices, he said.
Mitchell also pledged to continue to work to ensure VA claims are processed in a timely manner.
"After all the sacrifices they (veterans) have made for our country, they deserve better," he said. "They have earned it."
Historical/Veteran national dates:
• July 29,1958: NASA was created.
• July 30, 1945: The U.S.S. Indianapolis was sunk by Japanese submarine, but not before it delivered key components for the assembly of an atom bomb. Of the 1,196 sailors aboard, 317 survived and fought off sharks until they were rescued.
