The 91st annual Moffat County Fair, which has begun with a few smaller events, represents more than just another entertainment option for residents.

For many youths and participants, it is the culmination of a year's worth of hard work in putting together projects, and a chance for them to be rewarded for their efforts.

The Editorial Board considers the fair a fantastic community event for Moffat County and the annual highlight of the summer.

For that reason, and in recognition of the work put in by many in making the fair a reality, the board encourages residents to show up in support.

The fair could use the bolstered attendance, and coming out is a nice gesture from the community to participants and organizers for a job well done.

Events for the fair begin in the middle of the month and continue into the second week of August.

One look at the schedule - offerings are as varied as a bronc riding match to chicken roping to wiener dog races, among many others - is enough to see there is such a range of activities available that people of all ages can find an interesting enough reason to visit.

But, at its core, a visit to the fair isn't just about being entertained.

As one Editorial Board member noted, it's not only youths who compete in the fair, but also adults and even some seniors.

And that makes it truly a community event.

The fair is also a cheap option.

Although the economy isn't as bad in Moffat County as it is in other places of the country, it's still enough of a concern for people to be watching their dollars more closely.

But, take note: The fair isn't an overly expensive night out, especially when weighed against other options.

The Editorial Board would like to thank and congratulate the organizers of this year's version of the Moffat County Fair, as well as commend all the participants.

We only hope that area residents - and the more, the better - choose to do the same, and in person.
