Bob Hayse, 14th District commander, and Ron Stout, 14th District finance officer, attended the American Legion meeting.

The new State President of the Women's Auxiliary is Lou Ann Williams.

Mel Shockley, the local American Legion commander, is scaling back his duties as commander, after more than five years of dedicated service to keeping the post open and maintaining the building and swimming pool.

Shockley will limit his responsibilities to hosting the post's monthly meetings.

The VFW is still accepting donations for the veteran's honor flight in August.

Obama increases troop numbers in Afghanistan

The following is an excerpt from the Department of Defense:

President Barack Obama has ramped up U.S. efforts in Afghanistan by dispatching 21,000 more troops to fight a mounting Taliban-led insurgency, just as the U.S. draws down in Iraq as part of a bilateral agreement signed last year.

The Army will swell up to 569,000 troops, up from 547,000.

Craig Telehealth Clinic reminder for veterans

The Craig Community Telehealth Clinic offers U.S. veterans state-of-the-art technology, as well as on-site nursing support and remote practitioner availability. The clinic's goal is to provide an extensive array of health care services to veterans in a setting that is accessible and professional. To appropriately plan and coordinate your visit, access to the clinic is by appointment only. The clinic will not handle emergency needs. Flu shot walk-ins still are ongoing for veterans currently enrolled in the VAMC Healthcare system. Questions? Call 824-6721.

Tele-psych services available to veterans

Veterans now can get tele-pysch services at the Craig VA Telehealth clinic. All they need to do is call 970-263-2824 to set up a follow-up appointment for their mental health visit to be done there. If there are any questions, contact Jayne Scribner at VAMC Grand Junction via phone or e-mail.
