House Republican Leader Mike May, R-Parker, has appointed Rep. Randy Baumgardner, R-Hot Sulphur Springs, to serve on the Colorado Tourism Office Board and the House Agriculture Livestock and Natural Resources Committee, according to a news release.

"Tourism is an important aspect of Colorado's economy and I am certain that Randy will play a strong role in promoting our state," May said in the release. "His rural background provides him with a unique perspective as to how important tourism is to local economies across Colorado."

The 13-member tourism board is responsible for developing policies regarding the Colorado Travel and Tourism Fund to promote tourism and travel that benefits the state.

"Tourism benefits the state of Colorado in many ways," Baumgardner said in the release. "I am happy to join the board and plan to serve as a strong voice for the Western Slope when it comes to promoting Colorado as a tourist destination."

As a member of the board, Baumgardner will work with other board members to oversee the efforts of the Colorado Tourism Office.

Baumgardner also will begin serving on the house Agriculture Livestock and Natural Resources Committee when the legislature convenes in January.

"As a rancher, I know the issues that will come before this committee and feel that I am prepared to serve as a strong voice for Colorado's agricultural community," he said. "This is an important committee assignment for my district, and I am eager to get to work on the issues."

As a member of the House Agriculture Livestock and Natural Resources Committee, Baumgardner will evaluate legislative proposals that affect agriculture in Colorado. Examples may include proposals regarding farming and ranching, water rights and other issues of importance to the agricultural community.

Baumgardner will begin serving on the Colorado Tourism Board immediately.
