What has six sides, chain-link fencing, two fighters and returns Aug. 8 to Craig?

Rampage in the Cage, hosted by Holistic Health and Fitness at the Moffat County Ice Arena, 600 S. Ranney St.

Karrie Booth, Holistic co-owner, said there wouldn't be a shortage of mixed martial arts action.

"Currently, we have 10 on the ticket," Booth said. "We can have as few as seven or eight and as many as 13."

A large number of the fighters will come from Northwest Colorado, she added.

"There are quite a few from Craig and some from Meeker and Grand Junction," Booth said. "Sometimes, we have to pull from Denver."

The fighting this year should be better than in years past, Booth said, because of the amount of training leading up to the bouts.

"The fighters have been training more, so they're more skilled," she said. "They're more entertaining to watch. It's more like a chess match."

Booth said the attendance of the fights has increased each year, and their popularity isn't just confined to Moffat County.

"It's really caught on everywhere. It's huge now," she said. "I guess it's a good way to get out some aggression."

But the fights aren't just about reckless abandon and free-swinging limbs.

"There's so much discipline," Booth said. "It's not just a lot of work - it's a lot of mental work. A lot of guys say they want to step in to the ring and try it once. But it's a challenge - it takes a lot of dedication."

Tickets for the match go on sale Monday.

Pre-purchased tickets cost $25, and waiting to buy them add the door will bump the price up to $35. Front row tickets cost $50, no matter when they're sold.

Booth said front row tickets usually don't last long, but the Ice Arena can fit as many as 1,000 people.

The gates open at 7 p.m., and the fights begin at 8 p.m.

Booth said she will try to obtain a liquor license, but was unsure whether it would happen.
