Eddie Kiggins: Holiday news lacking

To the editor:

I was sitting here thinking about the Fourth of July and was wondering why there was no celebration other than fireworks on this day that is so meaningful to a lot of people.

I read your paper, with all the fanfare about Grand Olde West Days, Whittle the Wood, etc., etc., but nowhere did I read anything about celebrating the Fourth of July.

All we saw in Craig was all the beautiful flags on Yampa Avenue and Victory Way.

Victory Way should tell us something about why the Fourth is so important to those of us who served so it could be named Victory Way.

Independence Day is the name we all should remember, not just the Fourth of July.

It should be celebrated and honored more than the other days that we celebrate. A Little Britches Rodeo is not my way of celebrating such an important holiday, though it's probably fun for those who go.

Think about, that's all I ask.

Why don't we, as a free people, celebrate the Fourth the way it should be celebrated?

Thank you.
