State recognizes county road and bridge
July 1, 2009
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has recognized the Moffat County Road and Bridge Department's efforts to maintain its gravel pits this month.
In a letter to department director Bill Mack, G. Russell Means, out of the Division's Grand Junction Office, said Moffat County has the best-maintained mining pits in Western Colorado.
"That makes me feel really proud of my crews," Mack said Tuesday. "They're the ones out there doing all the work. It seems like whenever something needs to be done, they get out there and do it."
Mack said the state inspects each pit for cleanliness and environmental concerns. Officials also visit older pits, where the county is in the process of land reclamation, to make sure the ground is healing and vegetation is coming back to the area.
