Soccer tournament open for registration
Local resident Bill Sawer wants the upcoming Midwinter Classic Soccer Tournament to fill the void between fall and spring.
"I wanted something in the middle of winter, when everybody is tired of the snow, but they still can't get outside," he said.
The one-day tournament is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8, and it will be inside the Boys & Girls Club of Craig gym,1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.
The event is open to boys and girls. Teams will be organized into three age divisions: one for players ages 10 and younger, another for ages 11 to 14 and a third for ages 15 to 18.
Sawer said some teams will be asked to mix age groups later in the afternoon.
Players must bring their own flat tennis shoes and shin guards. Registration is $5 for each five-player team, but individuals also are encouraged to play for a fee of $1.
All profits for the event will go to the Boys & Girls Club. For more information, call Sawer at 824-0116.
