A bill sponsored by freshman state Rep. Randy Baumgardner, R-Hot Sulphur Springs, could bring a major windfall to infrastructure projects in Northwest Colorado but at the expense of some money allocated to school districts, higher education and state grants.

Uncertainty remains about water plant

Craig City Engineer Bill Earley said a mistake was definitely made with the new $9 million water plant. It’s not certain whether the plant’s engineers, Denver-based Tetra Tech RTW, made engineering mistakes, he said, but, at the very least, their understanding of water levels in the Yampa River and in the plant was off. Tetra Tech officials did not return phone messages Wednesday.
Craig Puck Ewes blank Steamboat Storm, 7-0

The Craig Puck Ewes women’s hockey team rolled over the visiting Steamboat Storm, 7-0, Friday at the Moffat County Ice Arena. The Ewes exploded for four goals in the first period, then clamped down defensively to shut down the visitors.
Prosecutors add child exploitation charges against 32-year-old Craig man

Additional sexual-related charges were filed Tuesday against a 32-year-old Craig man already in police custody on suspicion of assaulting a mentally disabled woman late last year. In November, the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office charged the man with sexual assault on an at-risk victim, a Class 2 felony, third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer, Class 2 misdemeanors.
