U.S. 40 re-opened over Rabbit Ears Pass

Steamboat Springs U.S. Highway 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass was reopened shortly after 9 a.m. this morning. The road had been closed because of snowy and windy conditions, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Colorado Highway 134 over Gore Pass remained open, as did Colorado Highway 9 from Silverthorne to Kremmling.
The National Weather Service's Grand Junction forecast office is calling for periods of snow today, with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation in town. Westerly winds of 10 mph also are forecast.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for higher elevations, including Rabbit Ears Pass and Mount Werner. Between 3 and 7 inches of snow are forecast for higher elevations today, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow possible tonight.
A chance of snow for Steamboat Springs persists into Tuesday before giving way to partly sunny skies the remainder of the week.
The Steamboat Ski Area reported 4 inches of new snow at mid-mountain from 5 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. today. There were 5 fresh inches at the summit.
