Craig briefs for Jan. 9

Parent class accepting applications

— The Nurturing Parenting Class, a community parenting class sponsored by Moffat County School District, for parents with children as old as 5, is taking applications for classes beginning Jan. 20.

Classes focus on building a positive relationship with a child and developing skills for teaching and disciplining young children.

Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening from Jan. 20 to April 21. Dinner is served for the whole family before children go to their own class, taught by district teachers, and parents go to their class. Classes are provided for children as old as 12.

Flyers about the class are available at all local preschools, the VNA and Social Services.

For more information about the class or for a registration form, call Lynae Ellgen at 826-6282 or 824-7457 or stop by the Early Childhood Center at 775 Yampa Ave.

Publication promotes farmers markets

The Colorado Farm Fresh Directory is accepting listings from Colorado growers for its 2009 edition. Farm Fresh is an annual publication that promotes farmers markets, roadside stands, u-picks, community supported agriculture events, agritourism activities and farms that sell direct to the public.

"Buying local is a growing trend, and the Farm Fresh Directory provides a way for Colorado growers to (directly) market their products to consumers," said Wendy White, marketing specialist with the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

The deadline to send entries to the registry is Feb. 1, and the fee to be included in the publication is $25. Entry forms are available at the Moffat County Colorado State University Extension Office, 539 Barclay St. For more information, call 824-9180.
