The Moffat County Tourism Association wants to help.
That was the main message Tuesday night from MCTA Director Michelle Perry, who spoke about the group's plans for the year during the 2009 State of the County event at the Holiday Inn of Craig. The MCTA wants to do what it can to get people to Moffat County, she said.
Perry joked that hiring her was one of the group's big accomplishments in 2008. For most of the year, she said, the MCTA was without a director.
"One of the first things we did is kind of take account of where we were and where we wanted to be," Perry said.
The group wants to be at Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden. It has partnered with the Hayden Chamber of Commerce and volunteers to provide information about Craig to visitors. The MCTA helped get brochures at the airport - and Perry already has had to restock them.
"We're just really excited about that project because it shows people are looking for that information," she said.
The group plans to update those brochures and create new ones, she said. Perry also hopes to create a digital welcome display at the airport.
Perry told the crowd that she wants to ensure that the agency has standard procedures for helping bankroll local events.
"Every year we provide funding to things that are happening. : I really want to work with agencies in town to make sure we're providing that funding," she said.
The MCTA also wants to figure out who's coming to the area for those events and other purposes, Perry said.
"Another big thing we're working on is trying to develop a tracking system so we can tell where people come from and what brought them here," she said.
The MCTA wants to hire a marketing firm to help track tourists so the tourism association can target its advertising effectively.
Mostly, Perry said, she wants the MCTA to continue working with the Craig Chamber of Commerce and the Craig/Moffat County Economic Development Partnership. The three are creating a joint Web site this year, which is set to launch March 1.
"I just feel like that's really important, for the directors and boards to make sure we're all working in the same direction for Moffat County," Perry said.

Question of the week
Should the Craig Chamber of Commerce revise its State of the County attendance policy to allow people to hear speakers without paying for a ticket?
