Glenwood Springs 6 (Flohr 4, Ciani, Screen); Moffat County 5 (Noble 3, Ramos, Jackson).
Craig Trailing Glenwood Springs by eight points entering the final quarter, the Moffat County boys basketball team scored 22 points in the final frame.
Problem is, it wasn't enough.
The Demons answered with 24 of their own Friday night, shooting their way to a 71-61 road victory.
"We talked a lot about toughness before we came out here," Glenwood coach Greg Hire said. "Toughness as in doing all the little things, and I think that's what made the difference.
It also helps that Glenwood has No. 20 on its roster.
Kevin Screen (23 points) came up with big shot after big shot, holding the Bulldogs at bay on his way to leading a Demon offense that finished with four players in double figures.
"That Kevin Screen guy is what happened," Bulldogs coach Steve Maneotis said when asked what the difference was Friday night. "He killed us. But, I've got to hand it to Glenwood, they have a good team over there."
Senior Kevin Flohr drained four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points, Dakota Stonehouse pitched in with 13, and Jordan Ciani finished with 11.
MCHS post player Chayton Owens scored a game-high 25 points in the loss - 14 of which came in the first half. Point guard Mike Peters closed with 10.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Demons and 13th in its past 14 games.
The loss halted Moffat County's three-game win streak, and put the Bulldogs (12-8 overall, 8-3 Western Slope League) in a three-game hole in the league standings with three games remaining.
"We know what's in front of us," Maneotis said. "We just have to go out there and win ballgames, and keep building our confidence."
Owens scored 10 of Moffat County's first 12 points to start the game as the home team jumped out to a 12-6 lead. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Ciani and Flohr tied the game at 14, and Flohr's second bucket from downtown ended the first quarter with Glenwood in the lead, 18-16.
MCHS senior Collin Jackson opened the second frame with a 3-pointer, and the teams exchanged leads on five consecutive possessions until a basket by Stonehouse gave the Demons a 32-29 halftime lead.
Glenwood (14-6 overall, 10-1 WSL) caught on fire in the third quarter, pushing ahead by eight on a basket by Screen and two free throws by Stonehouse. Back-to-back buckets by Peters closed the gap to four, but Moffat County would get no closer.
Three consecutive baskets by Screen pushed Glenwood ahead by 10.
Peters made two free throws at the end of the quarter to set up the final frame.
Notes:
With Friday's victory, the Demons swept the two-game season series.

Question of the week
Should the Craig Chamber of Commerce revise its State of the County attendance policy to allow people to hear speakers without paying for a ticket?
