Fantasy Fix: It’s a little bit of everything

This week's offering is a bit of a mixed bag.

I'm going to dip into some fantasy basketball, a little mock draft action with fantasy baseball and a first for me, fantasy racing.

This week, I find myself competitive in only one fantasy basketball league on Yahoo. I've had a lot of bad luck with injuries this year, which is partly to blame.

My second-place team has fared well with the additions of Peja Stojakovic and Jason Thompson recently, and in the past two weeks my record is 14 wins and four losses.

This team is competitive at every position and is deceptively good. The only big names I have on this team are Vince Carter and Steve Nash.

Hopefully, this team will remain competitive well into the fantasy playoffs.

I mentioned in January that I would report on a couple of my Yahoo fantasy baseball drafts when I got them done.

Well, Yahoo has not opened up the fantasy baseball drafts just yet, but I did do a few mock drafts on mockdraftcentral.com and wound up with some decent teams. In my first mock draft, my first five picks were Albert Pujols, BJ Upton, Manny Ramirez, Jason Bay and Jake Peavy. I liked this team the best because of the balance of pitching and hitting. With the first five picks of my second team, I chose Jimmy Rollins, Prince Fielder, Carl Crawford, Cliff Lee and Ervin Santana. The second team had my favorite sleeper pick, Hideki Matsui of the New York Yankees. I've heard good things about Matsui's health going into this season, and I'm banking on him to have a 30 home run, 100 RBI and at least 80 run season.

I'm going to try something new this week. I've given it a lot of thought during the past few months, and I think some readers might like if I talked a little bit about NASCAR. Yes, there are fantasy racing leagues on Yahoo, and it's pretty popular. I started my own league this year with my brother and a friend of his. I should be able to put up a fight and hold my own, but I'm not expecting to win against big racing fans. I did a little research and came up with my picks for the Daytona 500 coming up this weekend. My starting drivers are Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Redd Sorenson. I'm tempted to throw in David Ragan in place of Ryan Newman because Ragan seems to have a bright future in racing and he could find a way to win a couple races this year. I'm also torn on whether to replace Busch with Jimmie Johnson; both are great picks in my mind.

Hopefully within the next two weeks, I will do a rundown of my first two fantasy baseball drafts; until then, it's going to be a little bit of everything.
