The Moffat County Bulldog Hockey Club clinched a first-round home playoff series Sunday in Kremmling, but it didn't happen the way coach Gene Carson said he wanted.

"We got our butts kicked," he said. "But, let me tell you something, win or lose, we are in."

They lost, 5-0 and 2-0, Sunday in Kremmling, but they clinched the fourth seed in the upcoming eight-team playoff tournament.

"We were pretty shorthanded out there," Carson said. "We had some kids that were sick, and it hurt us. We basically didn't have a second line."

The Bulldogs' shortcomings proved too steep to overcome, as Moffat County couldn't find the back of the net against Kremmling goaltender Richard Gamblin.

Gamblin stopped 19 and 14 shots, respectively, earning back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season.

The Cattle Kings' Jacob Hange, Taber Miyauchi, Kyle Potts, Tyler Florquist and Matthew Johnson each snuck a puck past Bulldog net minder Spencer Wayman in the Game 1 shutout.

"Their goaltender was playing out of this world," Carson said. "He was a big riddle that we couldn't solve."

The Bulldogs couldn't solve it in Game 2, either.

Gamblin pushed aside all 14 Bulldog shots, earning his second shutout of the season.

The top eight teams begin postseason play Saturday in a best two out of three format.

If needed, a third game will be played at the host site Sunday.

Moffat County is seeded fourth and plays the No. 5 seed at noon Saturday at Moffat Count Ice Arena.

As for who the five seed is?

Kremmling.

"We were severely shorthanded this time," Carson said of Sunday's match up. "It will be a different story this time around when it means something."
