Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Police Department chose not to amend the citation given to the driver whose two passengers remain hospitalized in fair condition after a two-vehicle car crash Wednesday, Capt. Joel Rae said Monday.
Last week, Officer Nick Moore, who completed the accident report for the wreck on Routt County Road 129 near Copper Ridge Drive, said the careless driving citation issued to Cliff O. Godbold, 24, of Steamboat, could change based on the outcome of the investigation and severity of the passengers’ injuries.
The driver of the Ford, Jordan Moomey Cranwell, 26, of Oak Creek, was not cited.
The passengers, Lisa Klink, 69, of Tampa, Fla., and her daughter, Rignor Klink, 39, were guests at the Vista Verde Ranch in North Routt County.
Rae said changing the citation wouldn’t be necessary. There was no indication of alcohol or drug use, he said.
“It appears what he’s charged with, that’s what it’s going to be,” he said.
Police were called at about 5 p.m. to the crash.
Moore said last week that the Vista Verde Suburban driven by Godbold was traveling north on C.R. 129 “too fast for conditions.”
Moore said it fishtailed into the southbound lane with the passenger side facing the oncoming Ford, which struck the Suburban.
Lisa and Rignor Klink had to be extricated from the Suburban.
They were taken in critical condition to Yampa Valley Medical Center. Lisa Klink was then airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center.
Both drivers also were taken to the hospital as a precaution, and later released.
Rignor Klink remains in fair condition at YVMC. Lisa Klink remains in fair condition at Denver Health.
Ben Martin, general manager at Vista Verde, said the ranch was shocked to hear about the wreck.
He said it was an accident and that the ranch supported Godbold.
“I don’t think anybody is pointing a finger at him for doing anything egregious,” Martin said. “It was an accident. He took it hard like any human being could.”
Martin said the ranch has been in contact with the Klinks and is trying to do what’s right and help in any way it can.
