- Jo and Scott Shepherd, of Parshall, announce the birth of their son, Dalley James Shepherd, at 3:21 p.m. Dec. 2, 2009, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long. Grandparents are James (Cooter) McDaniel, of Walden; Ruth Shepherd, of Greeley; Robert Shepherd, of Plattville; and the late Janis McDaniel. The baby was welcomed home by his half brother, William Garrett Shepherd.
- Ashley N. Simpson and Chuck Weis, of Craig, announce the birth of their son, Dalton Charles Weis, at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 4, 2009, at The Memorial Hospital. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 inches long. Grandparents include Patrick and Kathy Simpson, Belinda Wyman and Kim and Chuck Weis Sr., all of Craig.

- The Craig Bad Dogs youth wrestling team secured 11 first-place finishes at the Palisade Little Dawgs Tournament on Saturday. Facing some of the Western Slope’s toughest youth wrestlers, the Bad Dogs accumulated a 46-15 overall record with 28 pins.

But last Friday, the walls were dark and the TV screens blank.J.W. Snacks owner Danny Griffith had turned the lights out on purpose. For one hour, restaurants across Colorado joined together as a part of Lights out Lunch, an energy conservation awareness effort.
