- Intensity. Hardnosed play and stingy defense. All the things Moffat County High School boys varsity basketball lacked in its 81-28 loss Thursday to Rock Canyon came back in spades with Friday’s 74-64 loss to Green River (Wyo.) High School.

- Almost a year ago, during the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Ian Duzik participated in the National FFA organization’s Heifer Wrangle and caught a calf. The Heifer Wrangle is similar to the National Western Catch-It-Calf Contest. In both cases, participants try to catch calves in an arena. In neither case do winners get to keep the calves they catch. In the case of the Catch-It-Calf Contest, winners are presented with steers that they feed for the next year’s Stock Show.
- KRAI Holiday Drive raises more than $25,000

- From the thousands of people who stopped by or volunteered at the 2009 KRAI Holiday Drive, radio station owner Frank Hanel remembered a young boy no more than 5 years old. He had received a check for $5 from his grandparents for his birthday. But when his parents took him to the west entrance of the Centennial Mall, he handed the check over to Hanel and the team collecting donations for needy families.

- It was the late 1980s when Joy Tegtman saw it for the first time — a series of pale, beige buildings, squatting plain and unassuming in a field south of Interstate 80 in Rawlins, Wyo. But it was the stories that came from inside the Wyoming State Penitentiary that touched her and moved her to take a class of students back there every semester.

- In the history of the Independent Life Center, Executive Director Evelyn Tileston has never seen as much federal funding as she did Friday. ILC, which provides resources for people with disabilities across Northwest Colorado, received its largest contribution of $460,000 in loan and grant money to help preserve its services.

- Wesley Chapman never lived Nov. 23, 2009, but he lived Dec. 8 twice. Such is one of the strange things that happens to a person when he travels to the other side of the world. Chapman, a 15-year-old sophomore at Moffat County High School, left Los Angeles the night of Nov. 22, went backward in time as he passed over Hawaii and arrived Nov. 24 in New Zealand on the far side of the International Dateline.

- Playing Friday in the last game of the Grandview Invitational basketball tournament, the Moffat County High School girls varsity learned a valuable lesson. “We have to come ready every night,” coach Craig Mortensen said. “Nothing is ever going to be handed to you.”
