— Health insurance for senior citizens is perhaps the most complicated network of policies on the market, said Kate Neuschafer, a senior specialist for Silverthorne-based DML Associates.

For that reason and because there are so many policies to choose from, Neuschafer and her colleague make themselves available to consult with residents ages 65 and older about their Medicare coverage.

“We’re not sales people,” she said. “I’m more of a consultant than anything else. I’m not going to push anything on anybody.”

Her employer, DML Associates, contracts with several private insurance companies that administer the government’s Medicare health insurance.

Neuschafer’s goal this holiday season is to speak with residents about Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplements and prescription drug plans that offer increased benefits to normal Medicare coverage.

She operates a booth from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 2000 W. Victory Way, each week from now until the end of the year.

Her co-worker, Lloyd Waldron, also is available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

If those times are inconvenient, or if people cannot make it to the store, Neuschafer said she also makes home visits Mondays and Tuesdays.

“The Medicare world changes drastically every year, and you have to make sure you know,” she said.

The annual enrollment period for Medicare Advantage and supplements ends Dec. 31, so residents interested in learning more about those programs should plan to visit soon, Neuschafer said.

She added there isn’t a lot of drawn-out paperwork involved for people to examine their options.

“This is a simple process only requiring that the individual be on Medicare,” Neuschafer said.

She encouraged anyone with additional questions to call her cell phone at 303-810-8469 for more information about Medicare and its different plans.
