The Substance Abuse Prevention Program only has one chance each year to raise funds for scholarships and after-school programs.
The 2009 SAPP pancake breakfast raised $6,400 to help provide students with safe, alternative options to using drugs and alcohol.
Third- through sixth-grade students were responsible for selling tickets to the breakfast and received prizes during a Thursday morning ceremony at McDonald’s for their efforts.
Brianna Burkett sold 331 tickets, at $3 each, and received a laptop computer. Tane Otis, the next highest ticket seller, at 280 tickets, also won a laptop.
Hunter Beckett (150 tickets sold) and Isiaih Huber (100 tickets) won new bicycles, and Alissa Flannery (80 tickets) received an iPod.
Ten other students won $20 cash prizes for each selling more than 20 tickets.
The funds raised by the event will go to three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and for after-school programs at the elementary schools.
SAPP also pays for after-prom activities and other activities that might help prevent substance abuse in the community.
