Craig — To the editor:

This letter is to all the Republicans and Democrats out there.

Wake up.

These parties are splitting this country apart. George Washington warned us about having a two-party system, saying that it would eventually lead to destroying this country.

Both parties are corrupt to the core, and unless we the people stop them, this country of ours is going to cease to exist.

This Congress has passed thousands and thousands of pages of new laws that no one in the government has even read.

They are spending trillions and trillions of dollars faster than every past president combined. Why? No one knows.

Common sense and your gut tells you something is wrong. Health care will not be free. Nothing is free. Most of us learned that when we were kids.

We have a shadow government in the form of almost 40 czars. For what purpose? Who do they answer to? Not Congress. Not the people.

What happened to the balance of power as stated in the Constitution?

Obama told us that he was going to "Fundamentally change America."

What is that change?

Maybe buried in those thousands of pages of new laws is a law that says that we will no longer have free elections, not in 2010 or ever. How do you know?

Have you read any of those thousands of pages? We know Congress has not, nor has the president.

Who wrote those bills? No one seems to know; Congress just passes them.

To you 20- and 30-year-olds, I would like to encourage you to go back and study history. Study 1900s Germany, Russia and Italy.

Look at China, Cuba and Venezuela. Socialism/Communism/Marxism is evil, has never worked, will never work and only brings slavery to the people while a handful of evil people get rich on the backs of those they rule.

Study for yourselves and pray for America.

Wow! The government is doing the same thing it's been doing for years and years. Only now you have these fears? The Patriot Act was passed in 30 days and was over 1,000 pages. You think every congressman read that masterpiece (sarcasm)? You think that Obama has an evil agenda? Have you been watching FOX news (and I use the term “news” loosely here)? Just how exactly are we going to turn into China, Cuba or Venezuela? We already have socialism in the form of healthcare (medicare), post office, police, fire, parks, roads, schools.

What is the big deal?

Please read April 1865 by Jay Winik. This country has been through far more difficult tribulations that anything we have even seen in our lifetimes. We survived then and we certainly will survive now. I have always hated the phrase “we lost our innocence on that day (pick your catastrophe)” because no matter what each generation of Americans has had to face, the crises of past generations has darned sure been worse. Democracy is a messy thing. If you aren't happy now, you likely will be happy again in four or eight years, just as the people you may despise go through the opposite, but equal process. That is the genius of our country as well as the basis of our shared history. Everyone gets an “at bat”- some strike out, some get a hit, and some hit a home run, but we all get the “at bat”. Nowhere else in the world does that occur to the extent that is does in this country.

Nothing we can do about it now. We must gather our forces and focus on the future and make sure that history is not repeated. Even those Democrats who voted along party lines are starting to realize the seriousness of the mistake that was made. But to be honest about the whole deal we can't beat a dead horse and the man in place was the lesser of two evils. I never thought I'd say that, being a staunch republican, but the republican rep was the wrong choice from the getgo and you know it as well as I do. Sit back, prepare your support and when the time comes show your support for a Republican Governer, and appeal to a higher power for strength, guidance and direction to prepare a good nominee for president .
