The Bulldogs are hungry - hungry for competition.
The Moffat County High School boys swimming team's most recent scheduled meet - planned for April 17 and 18 at the North Jeffco Invitational in Denver - was scratched because of bad weather.
That left coach Patti Worsley's team practicing in the pool, awaiting a busy portion of its schedule, which is upcoming.
The coach said her swimmers are ready.
"They're training hard, they're working hard," Worsley said about her team of six swimmers. "They're ready to go. They want to have a meet and have some fun."
On the season, the Bulldogs have competed in just two meets - a March 7 relay in Grand Junction and a March 20 and 21 meet in Montrose.
Other than that, the team hasn't been immune to the scheduling difficulties other local sports teams have endured at the hands of inclement weather.
"We've been practicing, but it's been tough (having a meet) because of the weather this year," Worsley said.
But competition is on the way.
The Bulldogs travel to Glenwood Springs on Saturday for a 10 a.m. meet with Glenwood, Montrose, Delta and Grand Junction. Six swimmers will be competing for MCHS.
The team also has home meets scheduled for the beginning of May.
On May 1, MCHS competes against Grand Junction at the MCHS pool. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
A day later, at 9:30 a.m. May 2, MCHS again swims at home, this time hosting competition against Glenwood Springs.
Worsley said she thinks her squad's hard work in practice will pay off with better finishing times.
"I'm expecting some pretty big drop in times," she said. "I'm thinking, they've been working so hard, they'll do really well."
