Another tournament and similar results for the Moffat County High School girls golf team.

On Monday at Rifle Creek Golf Course, the Bulldogs finished fourth out of seven teams, led again by junior Heather Nicholson.

"Heather has medaled at every tournament," coach Ann Marie Roberts said. "There's a group of four or five girls who are all up front every tournament with Heather."

Nicholson shot a 96, nowhere near her best for the season, but Roberts thinks she might be able to help her top golfer this week.

"I pulled up beside her, and she had just hit a nine iron when she should have used a seven," Roberts said. "We need to work on club selection this week. I was really surprised that all of our girls were consistently two clubs off what they should have been using."

Roberts has been working on the swing of first-year players, sophomore Nike Cleverly and freshman Sam Fox, and said she was excited for them during their driving range warm up Monday.

But the range accuracy didn't transfer to the course.

Cleverly turned in a 118, and Fox carded a 126 - not bad scores, but they also weren't improvements.

"I played the back nine first, which is the toughest part of the course, and handled it pretty good," Cleverly said. "On the front, I didn't stay focused, and on a couple of holes, I blew up."

The next tournament for the Bulldogs will be Monday in Craig.

Roberts said she thinks Cleverly and Fox are ready to drop their scores.

"They're close," she said. "They are hitting the ball better, but there are just a couple of small things to work through on their swing."

Cleverly said she's ready for her work in practice to pay off.

"I really hope the next tournament will show improvements that I've seen in practice," she said.
