So, some of your top fantasy baseball picks are not cranking out the numbers you expected. No need to fret. We're still in the first month of the season, so there still is plenty of time for players to turn it around and turn in a good season.
In some cases, such as Alexi Ramirez and Mike Aviles, two hyped second baseman/ shortstops, I think it's just a case of getting into the groove and finding a good hitting rhythm.
Aviles is buried in the Kansas City Royals lineup right now, but once he gets back into the upper part of the batting order, he should be OK.
I'm really not sure what's wrong with Alexi Ramirez. I read online that he's not very good in playing in cold weather and he's trying to get adjusted to that, but it's really not a good excuse.
This year, I have Aviles and Ramirez on two teams and I'm trying to be patient with them so I've put them on my bench for now in favor of Jason Bartlett who is doing a good job for the Tampa Bay Rays so far.
So, who are some players that you can plug into your lineup to replace your struggling stars?
I think I've got you covered.
• Jason Bartlett, shortstop, Tampa Bay Rays - He's not going to keep hitting home runs at this pace (2 in 36 at bats), but he should be a good source of steals, batting average and runs all season long.
• Freddy Sanchez, second base, Pittsburgh Pirates - Sanchez is a legitimate .300 hitter despite what his .271 average of 2008 might say. Like Bartlett, not a great source of power, but he will provide some RBIs, runs and a good batting average.
• Jack Cust, outfield, Oakland Athletics - Here is a guy who could provide your team with a power surge. With his improved batting stance, Cust is now hitting .286 with 10 runs, two home runs, and 6 RBI.
Even with Holliday and Giambi in the lineup, Cust has the potential to surpass the 30 HR and 80 RBI average of the past two seasons.
OK, now that I've filled you in on some valuable fantasy baseball info, I can tell you how my Yahoo fantasy hoops team, the Regulators, finished.
After being ahead by five categories April 13, my lead was whittled down to one category two days later. The only category that was being competed for was rebounds. My guys came through for me with 43 total rebounds. It was enough for me to take the rebounds category by three rebounds and win the championship by a very close score of five categories to four.
Next week, I'll be giving you my top 20 fantasy baseball players so far this year.
