Craig briefs: Publishing workshop is Saturday

Have you always wanted to write and publish your own book - a novel, collection of short stories, memoir, or photo book?

Join Carole London from Lifetime Chronicle Press of Montrose, for a special publishing workshop from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Downtown Books, 543 Yampa Ave.

London has worked in the publishing industry for more than seven years and will share everything she knows about the publishing process and options available to writers who wish to publish their own books.

Local books published by Lifetime Chronicle Press include "Tales of the Old West" by C.H. Stoddard and "Last Ranch in Hell's Canyon" by Queeda Mantle.

Call 824-5343 to make a reservation. The event is free and open to the public.

Humane Society looks for calendar pet photos

Submit your pet photos by May 17. Photos must be digital in .jpg format, at least 200 dpi and six inches wide. Set your camera to its highest resolution as photos will be enlarged to 8-by-10 inches for the Humane Society of Moffat County calendar. E-mail your digital photo as an attachment to hsmc2010@yahoo.com. Do not reduce the file size in order to e-mail it.

Include the following:

• Pet's name and age, owner's name, address, phone number, and email address.

Photos must have been taken in the last year and pets must be alive. No more than two entries per family. The contest is free and not limited to cats and dogs, but should be a pet that lives in your home.

Several local business owners will judge the photos. The top 24 will be presented at various Humane Society functions this summer for public voting. The top 12 vote-getters will be featured on the 2010 Pet Mates Calendar.

In addition to the calendar contest, photographs of pets may be submitted for placement throughout the calendar for $5 a photo.

These may be print photos as quality is not as crucial. Print photos and/or payment for the $5 photos should be mailed to HSMC, P.O. Box 1587 Craig, CO 81626. Please include the pet and owner information detailed above. If a stamped envelope is provided, the photos will be returned.

For more information, call Carol Scott at 824-2103.
