The Craig Concert Association plans to launch its 2008-09 season this weekend with a performance by the Frank Vignola Quintet, a string group hailed for creating a new brand of music.
The group is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County High School auditorium, 900 Finley Lane. Tickets cost $20 at the door.
"The Frank Vignola Quintet has shattered the barriers between popular music and traditional jazz to create an exciting new sound in acoustic string music," according to the group's Web site. "The repertoire of the quintet, together with its amazing virtuosity, puts them in a league by themselves, in essence creating a new genre of music."
The group is scheduled to perform numerous songs Saturday, including "Tico Tico," "Summertime," and "Stardust." The performance is the first of five concerts the Craig Concert Association has booked for coming months.
"We're really looking forward to a good season," said Julie Dempster, Craig Concert Association publicity chair. "We've got some neat performers."
A performance by comedian Robert Post scheduled for Valentine's Day stood out in Dempster's mind.
"It will be a great date night and a good family night, too," she said.
Concertgoers can purchase a season membership at Saturday's performance that will give them access to all five shows scheduled this season. Membership costs $30 per adult. Other packages are available for students, families and organizations that support the Craig Concert Association.
For more information about Saturday's performance, other Craig Concert Association shows or to purchase a membership, call Dempster at 824-5251.
