The Moffat County Weight Loss Competition begins at 6 p.m. Monday at The Center of Craig. The 12-week program advises proper nutrition, food choices and encourages exercise. Participants receive personalized weekly one-on-one coaching.

A portion of the $39 entry fee is donated to www.gofitkids.org. Cash and prizes are awarded to participants who lose the most weight. Preregistration is this week.

Daily Press editorial board seeks members

The Craig Daily Press is seeking three or four people to participate on its next editorial board, which begins Oct 1.

Editorial board members meet from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays to discuss the paper's opinion piece for the following Wednesday and Saturday papers. Editorial board terms last three months.

Governor orders flags lowered today

Gov. Bill Ritter ordered Monday the lowering of U.S. flags to half-staff today on all Colorado state government buildings in honor of former Colorado Senate president Ray Powers, of Colorado Springs.

Powers died Friday. He was 79. A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Springs First Church of Nazarene, 4120 E. Fountain Road, in Colorado Springs.

Powers served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1979 to 1980 and in the Senate from 1981 to 2000. He was Senate president for his final two years.

Girl Scouts seeking

volunteers, members

The Girl Scouts of Craig is looking for adult volunteers and girls to be members. If you would like to know more about the Girl Scouts, visit the group's annual Smore making event at 4 p.m. Oct. 6, at Loudy-Simpson Park.
