Trailing by four strokes heading into Tuesday's final round of the 4A high school golf state championships, D'Evelyn senior Brenden Beeg did the unthinkable.
And he only needed two holes to do it.
Beeg caught first round leader Wyndham Clark of Valor Christian on the second hole of Yampa Valley Golf Course, and he never looked back.
Clark triple-bogeyed the 355-yard par four, while Beeg birdied it, eliminating his four-stroke deficit with three swings of his club.
Beeg then birdied the fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth holes, taking a four stroke lead of his own into the back nine.
Birdies on 11 and 12 followed, and despite a few slips at the end, Beeg held on to win with a final-round 66.
His two-day total of 136 was six shots better than Clark, who finished second with a 142. Ryan Hooks, of Evergreen, and Andrew McCain, of Pueblo Centennial, tied for third, coming into the clubhouse with matching 145s.
D'Evelyn also won the team title on the links of Yampa Valley Golf Course, closing with a 439.
Greeley Central (446) finished second, Montrose (453) third.
