Craig The U.S. Postal Service recommends sendnig mail to troops ASAP. All Holiday mail for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan should be mailed by Dec. 4 to arrive before Christmas. The USPS is running articles in the Daily Press "Local" feature regarding their services and deadlines. Read them and comply so our young service men and women know that public support still exists for their sacrifices in our behalf.
Veterans Day Buddy Poppy drive a success
The VFW wishes to thank all who donated to their members outside of City Market, Safeway and Wal-Mart. More than $1,000 was received. This speaks highly of the generosity of our community and the people who use these retail outlets from other areas. We also thank hunters who were escaping the weather and restocking their camps who stopped by too.
Note of appreciation to American NW Realty
I would like to make a special note of appreciation to the Broker-owners and staff of the American NW Realty LLC for hosting a veteran's luncheon this past Veterans Day. The event was to be held outside the offices, but the weather decided to make changes. The staff moved everything inside, cramping their operations but going out of their way to make veteran guests comfortable and well fed. Secondly, I would like to personally thank Roy McAnally for his presentation of two Bronco tickets to Talon Jayne and his spouse for the Miami game in Denver. Bravo Zulu Roy!
Send in applications for Washington D.C. trip
There will be a free trip to Washington, D.C., in May for WWII veterans. This office is handling applications for WWII veterans to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Grand Junction is a hub in the Honor Flight program and is hoping to send 100 Western Slope veterans this spring. More information will be forthcoming; and fundraising efforts - local and regional - are under way. If individuals or organizations would like to assist sending these heroes to the memorial dedicated to their sacrifices and service, please contact me for details. More news releases will follow regarding this effort, as well.
