Hockey

The Moffat County Bulldog Club Hockey team started its season Saturday and Sunday, splitting a season-opening home stand with two teams from Grand Junction.

Moffat County (2-2 Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League, 2-2 overall) lost, 5-1 and 6-1, Saturday to the Grand Valley A Junior Mavericks.

Moffat County High School senior Colt Criswell tallied his first goal of the season in the first game, and Craig Middle School eighth-grader Bubba Ivers tallied his first goal as a Midget in Game 2.

The team rebounded to outscore the Cattle Kings B team, 21-1, in a Sunday doubleheader, winning Game 1, 11-0, and Game 2, 10-1.

Criswell tallied two goals and two assists in Game 1, and MCHS junior Ty DeGuelle recorded a hat trick in Game 2.

Criswell - who led the team with 29 points last year - picked up nine points during the four games, scoring four goals and assisting on five others.

DeGuelle finished with seven points (four goals, three assists) and senior John Strahan tallied six points (four goals, two assists).

Senior goalie Spencer Wayman stopped nine shots in Sunday's morning game, earning his first shutout victory of the season.

Wayman recorded two shutouts as a junior.

The Bulldogs host Kremmling (0-0 RMYHL, 0-0 overall) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
